Makes 3 slices french toast. Print

Ingredients:

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence (vanilla extract)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 slices of thick white bread
  • Pinch of salt to taste
  • Pat of unsalted butter or light olive oil

Preparation:

  1. Whip egg, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, salt, and milk until light and frothy.
  2. Heat a shallow frying pan and season with butter.
  3. Dip bread, one half at a time, in mixture briefly.
  4. Place into hot frying pan and cook until golden brown.
  5. Serve hot with scoop of ice cream, drizzled with maple syrup, or stewed fruit and dusted with powdered sugar.
