Baking Without Measures

Do you have the ingredients but don't have proper baking measures?

Fudge the measurements with these simple tips:

  1. Use a small coffee cup for a 1 cup measure. Don't fill quite to the top; fill to about an inch below the top of the cup. I have an 8 oz cup from IKEA I use.
  2. Use a small spoon for a teaspoon (tsp) and a larger spoon (soup spoon) for a tablespoon (tbsp). Don't heap dry ingredients; the ingredients should have a small, comfortable mound (about a 1/4 inch) about the spoon.
  3. Break up the ingredients of the recipe into parts...

For example in our Peanut Butter Cookies where the ingredients are:

    • 1 cup Peanut Butter
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 2 tsp baking soda
    • ¼ cup or less flour (optional)
You could say that there is one part Peanut Butter, one part sugar, one egg, two small spoons of baking soda and a quarter part flour.
